Just to add: Serious fundamental data from the US is due for release later today. If the GDP figures surprise to the upside this idea is likely to have more legs. The opposite is true as well.

The US data has come out and the trade is still in play despitee the data being bad for the $. We now have a quadruple top and bearish engulfing candle as well on the chart.
