November wasn't very kind to Dogecoin, but this week it went from plummeting to skyrocketing.
DOGE surged as much as 23% on Tuesday, after "Dogefather" Elon Musk came to its rescue once more, revealing that Tesla will start accepting it as a payment for some of its merchandise. “Tesla will make some merch buyable with Doge & see how it goes,” Musk tweeted. The billionaire has previously called Dogecoin “people’s crypto” and in May, he posted a poll on Twitter, asking his followers if Tesla should accept payments in Dogecoin, with more than three quarters of respondents saying yes.
At the same time, another dog-themed currency has emerged. Floki Inu, was inspired by Musk's Shiba Inu, Floki, and is also described as "people's crypto" and "a movement".
Since its inception, Dogecoin's price has depended on online promotion by celebrity figures like Elon Musk and Mark Cuban.
