Meta Expands AI Push With Government Approval and Dating Features

Meta Platforms (META, Financials) made progress on its artificial intelligence approach in a number of ways on Tuesday. It got government approval for its Llama AI system and added new AI features to its dating service.

The U.S. government has now certified Llama for use, making it one of the approved platforms along with Alphabet's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude. The deal provides Meta a footing in the public sector, where AI use is rising in defense, research, and regulatory bodies.

Meta also claimed that it will introduce an AI assistant to Facebook Dating to improve match suggestions and deal with "swipe fatigue." The business is also adding more capabilities to the service, which fits with its larger plan to put AI into all of its apps.

Meta is trying to make money in other ways besides advertising, and these announcements are part of that effort. Analysts have flagged opportunities in WhatsApp and Threads to add as much as $25 billion in incremental ad revenue over the next two years.

On Monday, Meta's stock fell 1.7% to $765.16, which was less than the S&P 500's 0.44% increase. As part of its aim to give money back to shareholders, the firm has announced a quarterly dividend of $0.525 per share.
