Foreign Divestment in Canada Smaller than Expected

Foreign investors trimmed their Canadian securities holdings by CAD 2.8 billion in May 2025, a smaller reduction than the anticipated CAD 7.3 billion, marking a fourth consecutive month of outflows.

Meanwhile, Canadian investors acquired CAD 13.4 billion of foreign securities in May, led by purchases of US shares.
