I am considering adding to an underweight exposure to BTC as a hedge against the real threat of persistent double-digit inflation and the ultimate failure of all fiat currencies. My portfolio has been overweight in physical Gold and Silver since 2005. Over the years, I made the mistake of not onboarding an adequate amount of BTC into my holdings. I believe that BTC has taken much of the thunder from what would have otherwise been a far more significant rise in precious metals. I do not subscribe to the plausibility of BTC replacing the dollar or other government monopolies as a reserve currency. I also have a great distrust for the pending rollout of Central Bank Digital currencies. That said, hedging within reason against the many unknown details of what's to come, and to whatever extent practical, I think it prudent to hold alternate stores of long-term value. Gold and Silver are proven stable in this regard for thousands of years. In contrast, BTC is inordinately volatile and bears significant uncertainty relative to its future. Be that as it may, I suspect it is still wise to hold a meaningful percentage of one's net worth in BTC. I tend toward a 10-20% allocation for the monetary metals and a 2.5-5% allocation for BTC. Basis my RSI buy/sell parameters, we nearly had a long-term buy signal in July. BTC had since declined further. Given BTC's massive volatility, I realize drawdowns following an entry signal can be significant, especially on the short side of the equation. It would be great to backtest the RSI signals. I've had experience doing just that on TradeStation, however, I'm not in a position to learn to do it here on TV. Anyway, I just wanted to share my thoughts on this idea and see what kind of feedback the community might have. I am retired, on a fixed income, and have been a chart enthusiast since the late 90s.
